Totman's Towing AGAIN Featured in Towing & Recovery Footnotes!

Totman’s was AGAIN featured in an article in the industry publication “Towing & Recovery Footnotes” in the April 2011 edition! This time we made the front page! Click HERE to read the story. (front page, bottom center)

One of our towing stories from our website was published (with permission), reflecting only one of many silly and funny situations we deal with in our daily work.

Fortunately, no one was injured in this situation, but it definitely was a lesson to the owner that there was NOWHERE that his dog could not get out of when he gets anxious!

Call us with all of your towing and auto repair needs at (207)342-AUTO (2886).

Totman’s believes in being a part of the community as much as possible, in many different ways. At least once a year, sometimes twice, several fire departments come to our yard to learn about new or different equipment and techniques to help them to be more skilled, and therefore, to better assist their communities. Here are some pictures of one of last year’s training sessions (in the rain!)

Totman’s has been active in the local community since opening in 1994, primarily in the area of assisting area fire departments with donating vehicles for educating firefighters and emergency responders. Sometimes training sessions are held in different areas and often they are held at Totman’s yard. We are proud to assist our local rescue personnel in ensuring the safe recovery of accident victims in Waldo and Knox Counties. This year Totman’s also awarded two scholarships to Waldo County Technical Center (WCTC) graduates who are continuing their education in the automotive area. Here are some examples of how Totman’s participates in our local community:

An unusual amount of rain dumped on eastern Maine last week, resulting in accidents and flash flooding around the State. This actually was a wooden bridge that had just been crossed by a pickup and was followed by the Focus, thinking that the bridge was just slightly under the top of the water, when in fact it had collapsed. It doesn’t look like too much water in the pics, but the car was actually submerged enough for water to be flowing over the seats when we got there.

Turned out to be a rental car – OOPS. Good thing for insurance, huh?

Did you know….

That there are many people out there with tow trucks towing YOUR CAR that are not insured to do so? How can you tell the difference? Here are a couple of ways:

* Make sure the trucks are registered commercially. That means that their license plate will have the entire word “Commercial” printed on them and that they are not a wrecker plate (i.e., 999 W), in which case the truck is not authorized to tow commercially, but is only covered for towing their own business vehicles.

Note that just because they say “Commercial” does NOT mean they are fully covered. ALSO ASK FOR:

* Ask them to provide evidence of their “On Hook” insurance coverage. In order to obtain on hook coverage for vehicles being towed for hire, you must register the vehicle and pay additional insurance costs. This is why a lot of companies try to avoid the extra insurance. [...]
